After he installed it, the dust escaping from his workshop was noticeably diminished. He reviewed various products and decided that the Bosch kit was the right choice. It's a great tool and worked great for us. My husband was routing new interior doors for our home. Without the Bosch router dust exraction hood, he was rigging tarps all over the basement to control the dust, keep it from covering everything and drifting upstairs into the main part of the house.
Small problem that was fixed with a couple of foam ear plugs. Had to hollow out some wood plates and the Dust Extraction Hood worked great. Only problem is the two holes that are in the router base for the edge jig allow some dust to be blown out instead of into the vacumm hose.
Makes a tremendous reduction in the amount of dust during routing operations. Perfect fit. High durability construction.
I will try with another vacuum system that has more CFM to see if this helps. In my opinion it is removing about 90% of the dust. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because some dust does escape. It is about what you would expect.
They say they will release a modified dust extractor hood kit "in a few months". I bought the Bosch 1617EVSPK router kit last December and this dust extraction kit last week. Check your fixed router base for an extended shaft before purchasing this kit. I cannot comment on the performance of the other hood as I'm selling my kit to my brother-in-law and waiting on the redesigned hoods to be released. BEWARE that if your Bosch router is fairly new and has a fine adjustment shaft that goes into the base of the fixed base (model RA1161 I think), the side dust extraction hood in this kit will NOT fit. Bosch recently redesigned the fixed router base and is aware of the problem with fitting their existing dust hood on this base.
